Bobwhite (American) and White Breasted (Indian) are broiler quail and suitable for meat production business. Some highly egg producing quail breeds are British Range, English White, Manchurian Golden, Pharaoh and Tuxedo.

You can choose any of this breeds according to your production purpose. Always buy healthy and productive quails from famous farm or breeders.

Housing

Housing is very important for commercial quail farming in India. You can start raising quails in both deep litter and cage system. In deep litter quail farming system you can keep 4 to 6 birds per squire feet.

But raising the quails in cage system has more facilities than raising in deep litter farming system. After two weeks of age you can shift the birds into the cage.

For the first 2 weeks you can keep 100 birds in a cage sized of 3 * 2.5 * 1.5 square feet. And form 3 weeks to 6 weeks age you have to provide 4 * 2.5 * 1.5 square feet area for 50 birds.

Make several colonies in the cage and keep about 10-12 layer birds per colony for commercial egg production. Keep one male quails for every three female for breeding purpose.

Always clean the house and cage on a regular basis. Make proper ventilation system inside the house and ensure sufficient entrance of light and fresh air.

Feeding

Providing good quality nutritious food plays vital role in the growth, health and overall production of quails. So, feeding good quality food is very important for gaining high profit from commercial quail farming in India.

Breeding

Breeding of quail is very easy and simple. You can easily do the breeding process of quails. Generally quails gain sexual maturity at their 5 to 7 weeks of age. Layer quail start laying eggs from their 6-7 weeks of age.

They attain about 50% of egg production at 8th weeks of age. For breeding purpose in commercial farm keep the male and female quail ratio as 1:5. It take about 18 days to hatch the eggs and producing quail chicks.

The day old quail chicks normally weight around 8 to 10 grams. They become very sensitive to temperature. And absence of adequate temperature leads to clustering of young chicks and causes high mortality rate. So, become very careful during this period and take good care of them.

Diseases are the main constraints of successful quail farming in India. You must have to take good care of your birds and provide them good shelter and food.

Add adequate amount of vitamins and minerals in their regular food. Quails are very resistant to infectious diseases than chicken and other poultry birds.
