Italian Owl Pigeon

The Italian Owl pigeon is a breed of domestic fancy pigeon from Italy which was developed over many years of selective breeding.

It is one of the many fancy pigeon breeds that took many years, often decades of selective breeding. And like many other breeds of domesticated pigeons, this breed is descendants of the domesticated rock pigeon.

The breed is actually noted for it's proud horizontal stance and small size as compared to many other fancy breeds.

The Italian Owl pigeon breed is represented in the United States by the Valencian Figurita and Italian Owl Club. And represented in the Germany by the Sonderverein der Züchter Italienische Mövchen.

Currently it is a common breed and found in many countries along with it's native area. Read some more information about this breed below.

Italian Owl Pigeon Appearance

Italian Owl pigeon is a smaller sized bird with compact body. It has a broad and rounded breast that displays a prominent chest frill. It has a somewhat flat head that is rounded at the front and back.

Tail of these birds is rather short, and they have orange eyes unless a bird is white or pied, in which cases the eyes are black.

They appear in many beautiful color varieties including blue, red, silver and yellow in the major colors and in various patterns. Gold-colored birds are available in the major colors and patterns: grizzle and almond, Andalusian and indigo.

The Italian Owl pigeon is a very hardy and active breed. Healthy Italian Owls are perky birds that stand on their toes and give the appearance that they are ready to spring forward.
