The Bruno Jura Hound is a breed of scent hound. It was used as a talented hunter. These dogs are loyal and devoted, and are perfect for singles or families who enjoy the outdoors. It is also known as Bruno Jura laufhund in it's native area.

The Bruno Jura Hound has ancient origins. And the breed was developed during the Middle Ages for hunting in the rugged terrain in the Jura Mountains. They are commonly thought to have been developed from the French Chien Saint Hubert Hound.

The Bruno Jura Hounds are also closely related to the Bloodhounds, which is no surprise given their talent for tracking game over even the roughest terrain.

The Bruno Jura Hounds are hardworking and swift on their feet, and are known for following a scent to their very end. Although they are typically used for hunting, they can do well as companion pets, if their exercise needs are met.

The Bruno Jura Hounds can be gentle and loyal with family, though they will not hesitate to protect their loved ones. However, they are not aggressive, but will step up to the plate if needed.

Both the Bruno Jura Hound and the St. Hubert Jura Hounds are closely related to nearby French hounds, all are believed to have descended from the St. Hubert Hound, the breed is found on the both sides of the French-Swiss border, some writers believe it is a French in origin but most describe it as Swiss.

The Bruno Jura Hound is used by hunters in the Jura Mountains on the Swiss side of French-Swiss border to hunt fox, hare and small deer, it is said to be an very capable follower of faint scents, making is highly valued by local hunters when hunting in the arduous terrain in the area.[1]

Bruno Jura Hound Characteristics

The Bruno Jura Hound is a medium sized hound which closely resembles the larger St. Hubert Jura Hound (although, it has less pendulous dewlaps). The breed is usually black and tan or two-tone brown in color with no white.

The coat of the Bruno Jura Hounds is thick, dense and is short in length and easy to maintain. Their eyes are typically dark in color, and the nose are black and glossy.

Average body height of the mature dog is between 17 and 23 inches at the withers. And average live body weight of the mature dogs is between 15 and 20 kg.

Temperament

The Bruno Jura Hound breed was developed as a hunting breed. Although the breed has certain qualities which may work well as a companion pet. The Bruno Jura Hounds are very loyal and devoted to their owners. Although, they do tend to bond more closely with one person than with a whole family.

They are very active and energetic, so they may develop problem behaviors if their needs for exercise are not met. They are also intelligent, so they require regular mental stimulation in addition to physical exercise.

Average lifespan of the Bruno Jura Hound is between 12 and 13 years.

Feeding

How much a mature dog eats depends on it’s size, age, build, metabolism and activity level. Dogs are individuals, just like people, and they don’t all need the same amount of food.
