Acipayam Sheep

The Acipayam sheep is a dual-purpose breed of domesticated sheep which is raised for both meat and wool production. It was originated from Turkey from Assaf crossed with Awassi and Daglic ewes.

Today the breed is found mainly in the Ege region of Turkey. Selective breeding programs have been suggested to be implemented to keep the population stable because their production rate varies widely.

Currently the breed is raised mainly as a dual-purpose animal and good for both meat and wool production. However, read some more information about this sheep breed below.

Acipayam Sheep Characteristics

The Acipayam sheep are medium sized animals with beautiful appearance. They are mainly white in coloration, and both rams and ewes have white, coarse wool. Their face color is generally white. Average body height of the mature animals is around 61.4 cm at the withers. Average live body weight of the mature Acipayam rams is around 65 kg. And the mature ewes on average weight around 60 kg. Special Notes

The Acipayam sheep are well adapted to their native environment, and today they are mainly found in the Ege region of Turkey. They are good and raised both for their meat and high quality meat. The lambs grow relatively faster and reach slaughtering weight earlier. Generally a 6 month old young adult can produce around 28 kg of mutton, and a full grown adult can reach around 60-65 kg body weight. On average, the lactation period of the Acipayam ewes lasts for around 200 days. And total milk production of the ewes is about 170.5 kg during this period.
