Saxon Monk Pigeon

The Saxon Monk pigeon is a breed of domestic fancy pigeon from Germany. It is an old breed of color pigeon from Saxony and surrounding territory.

Saxon Monk Pigeon Appearance

Saxon Monk pigeon is a medium sized breed with oval and smooth head. The head is without crest and the forehead is somewhat rounded. The eyes are dark, small cere of flesh to red colored. Beak of these birds is long and is of flesh colored.

Their breast is broad and deep, and well rounded. And their neck is of medium length, becoming full at the shoulders and well curved throat.

Wings of the Saxon Monk pigeon are somewhat long and broad. Their back is long, broad at the shoulders and slightly sloping.

The tail is long and closed with twelve tail feathers. Their legs are long and thick, and muffed with well developed hock feathers. Overall feathering of the body of Saxon Monk pigeon is well developed, and close fitting. The breed comes in five color varieties including black, blue, red, silver and yellow with white bars or spangles.

The Saxon Monk pigeon is mainly used for exhibition purpose. It is also good for ornamental purpose.
