Coccidiosis In Chickens

Coccidiosis in chickens is the most harmful among all the parasitic disease of chickens. Parasitic protozoa like eimeria tenella and eimeria necatrix occurs this poultry disease. Chicken of all ages can be affected by this. Dominance of this disease depends on the species, age etc. of bird. But generally the chicken aged less than two month affect much. The germ of coccidiosis in chickens disease enter to the cell of chicken. Mortality rate in this disease is about 70-80 %. This parasitic attack directly the intestine of bird. Germ of this disease spread through the affected birds closet, which get mixed with poultry food and water. This germ spread from one place to another place through farmers cloth or used equipments of poultry farm.

Symptoms of Coccidiosis In Chickens

  • The symptoms can be seen within 3-4 days.
  • Feather of the affected bird get disarranged.
  • Chicken stops eating.
  • They become feeble.
  • Closet become liquid mixed with blood.
  • Eggshell become very thin.
  • Egg production of layer poultry get  reduced.
  • Affected baby chicken stays in the corner of house silently and snooze.
  • The wings overhang down.
  • Coccidiosis in chickens affected bird get separated from the flock.
  • Mortality rate of baby chicken is very high.
  • Eyes get closed.
  • Head crest of affected bird become pale.
Coccidiosis In Chickens Defense Method
  • Noxious environment or  condition is liable for spreading coccidiosis in chickens. So, try to follow fortunate health rules strictly.
  • Keep the litter of the poultry house always dry.
  • Keep the food and water pot clean and germ free.
  • Try to keep birds according to the space of the house.
  • Don’t make the house over crowded.
  • After using, burn the litter.
  • Ensure proper entrance of light and air.
  • Never make your chicken house wet, moist and noxious.
Coccidiosis In Chickens Remedy
  • Feed the chickens 15% sulphamezathine, sulphadimidine EMB-3 or embazin mixed water or feed according to the advice of veterinarian.
  • Mix 1-1.5 gram embazin powder or EMB-3 with 1 litter water and feed it to the chickens for 3-5 days.
  • Mix 100 grams of nematicidal 46% powder with 3.5 litter water. Feed this mixer at the rate of 2 milliliter per one kg weights chicken.
  • For every 15 kg chicken feed 1 dhatifen tablet by mixing with food.
