Testing Presence Of Natural Feed In Pond

It is very important to test the presence of natural feed in the pond for successful fish farming. Presence of natural feed in the pond can be determined in many ways. Some steps of testing presence of natural fish feed in pond are described bellow on how tho test the presence of natural feed in the pond.

Color of Water
Presence of natural feed in pond can be determined by watching the color of water. In naked eye if the color of water seems green like banana leaves or brown then be sure that there are plenty of natural feed in the pond.

Napkin-Glass Test

Pull a napkin in the water of pond and then keep it in a glass full with water. Then see if there any plankton in the water by keeping it opposite to the sunlight. If there about 8-10 plankton are available then understand there are sufficient feed available in the pond.

Testing by Hand
Plunge the hand under water till elbow. Then look to your palm. If the palm can be seen there are not available feed and if you can see the palm, understand that there are sufficient feed available for fish

Testing by Secchi Disk
Secchi disk is a general iron plate. It’s widths is about 20cm and black and white colored. If this disk seen after plunging in 20cm depth then there are not enough feed in the pond and if it is not seen then there are enough feed in the water.

Plankton Net
Collect plankton from water by using plankton net and keep it in a jar. If there are 2cm plankton in 20 litter water then understand that there are sufficient feed available in the pond.
