The Italian Owl pigeon is a breed of domestic fancy pigeon from Italy which was developed over many years of selective breeding. It is one of the many fancy pigeon breeds that took many years, often decades of selective breeding. And like many other breeds of domesticated pigeons, this breed is descendants of the domesticated rock pigeon. The breed is actually noted for it’s proud horizontal stance and small size as compared to many other fancy breeds. Italian Owl pigeon is a smaller sized bird with compact body. It has a broad and rounded breast that displays a prominent chest frill. It has a somewhat flat head that is rounded at the front and back. Tail of these birds is rather short, and they have orange eyes unless a bird is white or pied, in which cases the eyes are black.
They appear in many beautiful color varieties including blue, red, silver and yellow in the major colors and in various patterns. Gold-colored birds are available in the major colors and patterns: grizzle and almond, Andalusian and indigo. Average live body weight of the mature Italian Owl pigeon is about 280-320 grams.
